Three Technologies That May Influence the Future of Construction

An established leader in the construction industry, Greg Opinski is the founder of Greg Opinski Construction in Merced, California. Mr. Opinski is also the president of OP Development, a company that has completed numerous commercial construction projects.

The construction industry is continually changing because of advancements in technology. Three potential technologies that may significantly impact construction in the near future are:

1. Construction robots. Robotic swarm construction is a technology developed by scientists at Harvard University. The robots have sensors that enable them to detect one another to facilitate work as a team.

2. Buildings that reduce pollution. “Vertical forests” are high-rise buildings designed to fight air pollution by having trees and shrubs incorporated into the building structure. The plants will filter the surrounding air and absorb carbon dioxide.

3. Transparent aluminum. Nearly as strong as steel, transparent aluminum looks like glass but is four times stronger. It is a bullet-proof metal created by lasers and made of aluminum oxynitride.
